Barolo - Our Favorite Steak Wine

There are a lot of wines to choose from when enjoying a good steak. You can have a Cab Sauv from Bordeaux or Napa, a Syrah from the Rhone Valley or Australia, a Merlot from right bank Bordeaux, or a Super Tuscan from Italy. All of these are great choices, but Barolo is our favorite wine with steak.

Barolo has the power and structure to accompany a steak, it has the tannins for the rich fat you would get in a nice NY Strip or Ribeye. But it is also delicate, with finesse. Barolo is like ballet dancer, it has beauty, it has power and strength, it has balance, and it incorporates all these elements into a beautiful thing.

When you have a well made Barolo, there really is nothing better with a steak. And when you have a well made Barolo with some age, welcome to heaven. It’s SOOOO good!

I know most people in the States will first reach for a Cab Sauv with their steak. Go to any steak house in the states and look at the long list of Cab Sauv’s on their list. But, if you’ve never had a Barolo with a steak, try it. It may become your favorite steak wine as well.
